Bright Blue’s latest report, Driving uptake: maturing the market for battery electric vehicles, was launched in an article in The Times. The article focuses on four key policies made in the report: front-loading the Plug-in Car Grant before phasing it out; establishing a Used Vehicle Plug-in Car Grant; introducing a demand-led on-street chargepoint scheme; and, making chargepoints mandatory at petrol stations.
Lead author, Bright Blue’s Senior Researcher Patrick Hall, is quoted in the article: “The common characteristics of an electric vehicle owner include being affluent, well-educated, middle-aged and male. It is important that less well-off households are not left behind in the electric transition, and as such, policies to bolster the second-hand market are critical. Focussing on the used market for battery electric vehicles will achieve both better progressive and environmental outcomes.”
